Maine ski slopes put out welcome signs in December

December is the month when many of Maine’s ski mountains welcome back skiers and snowboarders for a new season on the slopes. Covered with natural and man-made snow, mid-sized and small mountains join Sunday River Resort and Sugarloaf which opened in November.

Aroostook County’s Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill is planning a December 8 opening day for its 28 trails and glades. Eaton Mountain near Skowhegan plans to open its 12 trails and tubing runs on December 11. Saddleback Ski Resort in Rangeley and Shawnee Peak in Bridgton plan to open on December 15. Shawnee Peak is celebrating its 70th year of operation this winter. Lost Valley in Auburn plans to open its 15 trails and terrain park on December 20, while Mt. Abram in Greenwood and Titcomb Mountain in Farmington are scheduled for a December 22 opening. Rumford’s Black Mountain has opening day set for December 26.
