Maine's network of marked and groomed snowmobile trails continues to grow. The state's Interconnected Trail System (ITS) now stretches more than 14,000 miles from York County to Aroostook County and hundreds of points in between. The trails are maintained by dedicated snowmobile clubs, the Department of Conservation and municipalities, and many pass by general stores, restaurants, inns and sporting camps to meet the needs of users. Snowmobiling in Maine can mean a leisurely ride on a cleared trail through forest or around a lake, or an open throttled dash across snow-covered fields or a pond. Guided snowmobile tours are offered by outfitters and sled rentals are available.
