Maine Stories
Sip and Stomp Maine's Newest October Crop
2011 Fall
Maine has surprisingly fertile ground for growing cold hardy and hybrid grapes. The state now has nearly 20 wineries and 10 vineyards, from York County to Lincolnville to the Bangor region, producing table and dessert wines from red and white grapes. October is harvest time at vineyards, and the perfect time of year to see vines full of fruit and sample the newest wines. Some wineries and vineyards have harvest festivals during the month with guided vineyard tours, bottling demonstrations, activities for children and grape stomping.
