Bangor, a city with a proud logging heritage, is the cultural and historic hub of the region, home to famous native son, author Stephen King. Check out The University of Maine Museum of Art and the Hudson Museum, where you can learn about Maine’s Native American heritage. Bangor hosts the Kah-Bang Music, Art & Film Festival and the American Folk Festival along the banks of the Penobscot River, and serves as a gateway to Maine’s vast outdoor wilderness areas. Head to Greenville for a tour of Moosehead Lake aboard the historic steamship Katahdin. Or follow the path of Henry David Thoreau along the Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail, a paddling-hiking route stretching from Bangor into Baxter State Park to Mt. Katahdin.
