Maine's Lakes & Mountains

In a region known for its outdoor recreation––from skiing and snowmobiling to canoeing, kayaking, hiking and mountain biking––you’ll find an amazing arts and culture scene. At Bates College in Lewiston, the internationally known Bates Dance Festival offers a series of performances to the public. Also in Lewiston check out Museum LA and the Franco-American Heritage Center. History buffs will enjoy the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Museum, Poland Spring Preservation Park, historic downtown Norway and the Stanley Museum in Kingfield. Music festivals, ranging from blues to bluegrass, pops to rock, include the Nateva Music Festival in Oxford, recently named by Rolling Stone as one of the “coolest festivals of the summer.” This is where the creative duo Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz of Diet Coke and Mentos fame call home. And the town of Buckfield claims to have more jugglers per capita than anywhere else in the world!
