Animal Parks & Zoos
Maine hosts animal parks and zoos with both exotic and native wild animals.
York's Wild Kingdom, in the resort town of York Beach, is home to emus, eagle owls, kangaroos, ostrich and alligators, along with native species like black bear.
For a close-up look at the wildlife of Maine, head to the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. See moose, black bear, white-tailed deer, coyote, turtles and other animals native to the state. Feel samples of animal fur, make sand paw prints at the visitor center or take a walk along the Game Trail while trying to guess the identity of animals by their silhouettes.
You could get a kiss from a camel at D.E.W. Animal Kingdom in the town of Mt. Vernon. More than 200 orphaned, abused and sick animals are cared for and rehabilitated at this 42-acre farm.
Kisma Preserve in Trenton provides guided tours to see animals from North America, Africa and various tropical and rainforest regions.
