Mini-Golf
Just like their full-sized counterparts, Maine mini-golf courses can be found in scenic spots throughout the state - in beach resorts, major cities and lakeside towns.
Courses challenge putters to get the ball past Maine-themed obstacles like ship's wheels, Maine Turnpike tollbooths, ferries, lobster traps, ski jumps, lighthouses and wooden forts. One course has a hole inside a two-masted schooner; others are inside a pirate ship and a full-sized covered bridge. Golfers must negotiate water hazards and even real sand traps on some courses.
Even if you don't shoot below par, many courses offer a free-game hole at the end, so everyone can take a final shot for a free round.
The U.S. ProMiniGolf Tour makes a stop in Maine each September, allowing locals and visitors to play against professionals and have a chance to win prize money.
