Aroostook County

Aroostook County, Maine’s largest and most northernmost county, is bordered on three sides by Canada. Here you’ll find an abundance of natural, historic and cultural attractions and a wealth of recreational opportunities among the forests and farmlands, rivers and lakes of this vast region that is larger than the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined. Wildlife abounds and moose watching is a popular activity. Wooded mountain trails beckon hikers to explore, and miles of country roads with far reaching views are perfect for bicycling. Clear flowing rivers and pristine ponds offer great canoeing, kayaking and swimming, and there are plentiful brook and lake trout and salmon to test an angler’s skill. Aroostook is a place of firsts, like the first state park in the state—Aroostook—and the first federally protected river in the country—the Allagash. There’s plenty of room to roam in Aroostook and so much to experience for a memorable vacation. Come see for yourself all that the “Crown of Maine” has to offer.
