Downeast & Acadia

Downeast Maine encompasses a natural landscape of remarkable diversity, from the rushing waters of the Penobscot River to the heaving tides of Passamaquoddy Bay. Miles of beautiful coastal beaches are the perfect spots to swim, sunbathe and enjoy the soothing warmth of the summer sun. Relax and breathe in the salty sea air and listen to the waves crashing into the rocky cliffs ashore.

Explore the lighthouses and forts, fishing villages and hidden harbors along the coast, the precious landmarks that tell the story of the region’s rich history. Pilot a sailboat or cruiser, paddle a kayak or cast a fishing rod. Canoe the pristine river and lakes, hike the hills and pedal the quiet roads. Stop at a roadside lobster pound and enjoy a fresh, sweet Maine lobster, steaming corn-on-the-cob and a delicious bowl of clam chowder.

The natural jewel that is Acadia National Park is a major scenic attraction on the Downeast coast. The 35,000-acre park is home to an amazing shoreline of boundless ocean vistas, pink granite cliffs, thundering surf and teeming birdlife. Inland from the ocean rise the highest mountains on the eastern seaboard of the U.S., topping out at 1,500 feet on Cadillac Mountain the first place in the country to see the sunrise each day.

Plan a visit and come see and experience all that Maine’s Downeast & Acadia Region has to offer.
