Belgrade Community Center

This recreation center on Great Pond in Belgrade features a small sandy beach area for swimming and a floating dock for water fun. There are picnic tables and grills for cooking out, and a playground for entertaining the kids. There are no lifeguards at the beach and no fee. A public pool is open from late June through late August. A small fee is charged and a lifeguard is on duty at the pool during swim hours. There are outhouses and bathrooms available. The center is located on Route 27 next to the Great Pond Marina.

Explore the hiking trails of the 6,000-acre Kennebec Highlands and get away for a few enjoyable hours to the woods, hills and ponds of this picturesque conservation area. Take a walk on the Messalonskee Stream Trail, one of many fun recreation trails maintained by the Kennebec Messalonskee Trails group. The Colby Museum of Art has an excellent permanent collection of American art from the 18th through 21st centuries, as well as an active temporary exhibit program. Admission, gallery talks, lectures and receptions are free. Visit Fort Halifax on the Kennebec River in Winslow, a Massachusetts Bay Colony outpost built in 1754 and the oldest remaining blockhouse in the U.S.
