Camp Ellis Beach
Camp Ellis Beach is a seaside community in Saco at the mouth of the Saco River. The beach at Camp Ellis is nearly gone, eroded away over time by natural forces of storms and the man-made forces of the breakwater, or jetty, that juts out into Saco Bay. The disappearing beach has been replaced with an extensive seawall of granite blocks extending northward from the jetty. Nonetheless, beachgoers will find a visit to Camp Ellis worthwhile, for a walk on the long breakwater out to sea, and for the quaint mix of seafood restaurants, and the lobster pound and general store. Fishing charters and kayak rentals can be arranged here as well. Public parking is available in the area of Camp Ellis Ave., Eastern Ave. and Lower Beach Rd.
Take in the nearby beach resort town of Old Orchard Beach and enjoy the fun arcades and exciting amusement rides, the wide variety of delicious beach foods and the many shops along Beach Street. For lots more food, shopping and entertainment, a visit to The Pier on the beach is a must! At Ocean Park, take a hike and explore the salt marsh ecosystem protected by the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.
