The Colony Beach
Colony Beach, also called Arundel Beach, is a 150-yard stretch of sand and pebble beach at the mouth of the Kennebunk River on Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport, just about a mile south of Dock Square in the heart of the village. This pocket beach, hemmed in by a breakwater on the right and a jumble of rocks next to the road, is a fun spot to relax in the sun and enjoy the ocean swimming. There is a small gravel parking lot, but no facilities. Along the road beyond the beach is a small park with benches, a fine place to watch the sunset. The Parson’s Way shore walk starts here and follows the shoreline for several miles, past Spouting Rock and Blowing Cave to Walker’s Point and beyond.
Visit the Lower Village, Dock Square and Ocean Avenue areas of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport for shopping, dining and lodging and to arrange for whale watching and sailing excursions. Spend some time at the Seashore Trolley Museum, the oldest and largest museum of public transportation, and its collection of more than 250 transit vehicles. Ride the trolley system of the Shoreline Explorer and take in the sights, shopping and restaurants along the coast from York Harbor to Kennebunkport. Explore the cultural and artistic heritage of the Kennebunk area at the Brick Store Museum.
