Drakes Island Beach

This beach extends from the enormous rock jetty at the entrance to Wells Harbor northward to join with Laudholm Farm Beach. The two beaches combined provide beach enthusiasts with more than a half-mile of sand, dunes, sea grass and bold ocean views. Set up your umbrella and chairs, spread out the blankets and enjoy a fun day of swimming, sunbathing and beachcombing. Wave sports such as bodyboarding, skimboarding and surf kayaking are exciting activities to match the swells that roll into the beach. Fishing from the jetty is a popular activity. Parking is available (fee) and there are restrooms nearby. A short path leads from the parking area along the jetty to the beach. There are no lifeguards and other public facilities.

Laudholm Farm Beach is just a short stroll away, where there is access to the Wells Reserve and miles of delightful walking paths and the exhibits of the Maine Coastal Ecology Center and historic Laudholm farmhouse. It’s also possible to reach the Wells Reserve by car. Stop in at the headquarters of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge and enjoy a walk over the paths and boardwalks of the Little River Estuary. Explore the cultural and artistic heritage of the Kennebunk area at the Brick Store Museum. Ride the trolley system of the Shoreline Explorer and take in the sights, shopping and restaurants along the coast from York Harbor to Kennebunkport.
