Long Sands Beach

Located halfway between the villages of York Harbor and York Beach, Long Sands Beach features a mile and a half of scenic beachfront. Spend a fun day here with family and friends soaking up the summer sun, swimming and bodysurfing in the breaking waves, flying a kite on the shore winds and beachcombing for shells and driftwood, all in view of historic Nubble Light. Volleyball and board surfing are also popular activities at the beach. Metered parking is available along Long Beach Ave., where stairs lead down to the beach. A walkway leads along the beach next to the road, where there are restaurants, shops, motels and summer cottages. Beach amenities include public restrooms and bathhouse, and lifeguards are on duty during the summer season.

Hop on the trolley system of the Shoreline Explorer and take in the sights, shopping and restaurants along the coast from York Harbor to Kennebunkport. Nearby Cape Neddick (“Nubble”) Light has watched over the entrance to York Harbor since 1879; a good vantage point to view the light is from Sohier Park in York Beach, where there is free parking. The whole family will enjoy a visit to York’s Wild Kingdom, the largest zoo and amusement park in the area. Take a scenic drive up the auto road on Mt. Agamenticus for panoramic views of the southern Maine hills and coast.
