Old Orchard Beach
Old Orchard Beach is Maine’s best known and most popular beach resort owing to the spectacular 7-mile long continuous stretch of wide, sandy beach. The streets of the town have a carnival atmosphere, with arcades, amusement rides, restaurants and food stands, hotels and motels, gift shops, clubs and The Pier, a famous oceanfront icon since 1898 that extends nearly 500 feet out offshore.
The beach is perfect for spreading out blankets, chairs and umbrellas and relaxing in the sun, swimming and bodysurfing on the ocean surf, building sand castles, and taking leisurely walks and exploring for shells, go for a long run up the beach. Volleyball games are always in play on shore, and jet skis and ocean kayaks can be rented for an exciting ride or paddle on the waves.
On the strip there’s food enough to delight any palate, from pizza, French fries, fried dough, cotton candy, caramel popcorn, hot dogs and cheeseburgers, to delicious meals served by one of the many family-style restaurants. Browse the souvenir shops and treat yourself to an ice cream or cold soda. Try your luck at a video game or hop on a thrilling ride. Throughout the summer a variety of special events, from festivals, fairs and free concerts to street dances and fireworks most Thursday nights, will entertain the entire family. There’s so much to do at Old Orchard Beach for the entire family that it’s hard not to have fun! The action continues into the night at the many clubs around town, with plenty of live music and dancing.
Parking is available throughout Old Orchard Beach at several municipal lots and many privately operated lots. There are public restrooms just off the strip on West Grand Avenue.
