Range Ponds State Park

The long sandy beach and grassy promenade on the northeast shore of Lower Range Pond offer beachgoers lots of elbow room to enjoy a day of fun in the sun. Visitors will appreciate swimming in the clear waters of the pond, relaxing on 1,000 feet of beach, playing games on the cool grass, and picnicking with family and friends. Lifeguards are on duty from mid-June through Labor Day. The beach area and restrooms are handicapped accessible. Pets are not allowed on state park beaches, but are welcome on a four foot leash elsewhere.

Range Pond State Park has picnic tables and grills available for enjoying barbeques and groups can reserve the large picnic shelter. Changing rooms and restrooms are located just back from the beach area. Small boats (under 10 horsepower) may be launched near the east end of the beach. Fishing is a great way to enjoy the scenic waters of the ponds. Canoeing, kayaking and wind-surfing are popular watersports, and several miles of easy hiking trails lead walkers along old woods roads and railroad grades. Two  playgrounds and a ball field provide entertainment for the kids. And there is plenty of parking.

Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a round of eighteen holes at nearby Poland Spring Resort, one of the oldest public golf courses in the United States. Walk the beautiful grounds of this historic place and visit the fascinating Poland Spring Museum and Spring House, home to the site of the original Poland Spring. The trails of Preservation Park offer several miles of easy hiking. A variety of private camping and lodging accommodations can be found nearby for visitors wanting to stay a few days in this beautiful Range Ponds area. 

Range Ponds State Park is open from May 15 to October 15.
