Rangeley Lake State Park

Rangeley Lake is a ten square mile gem of pristine waters surrounded by forested green hills and alpine mountain. The lake is best known for its trout and salmon fishing but on its southern edge Rangeley Lake State Park offers many more recreational opportunities. A swimming area provides access to the water for swimming and a place to lounge in the sun. Pets are not allowed on state park beaches, but are welcome on a   elsewhere.

The picnic area has tables and grills for cooking and you can launch your motor boat, canoe or kayak at the concrete boat launch to enjoy a leisurely trip around the lake. Hiking trails wind through the 869-acre park. A ball field offers plenty of room for kids to run and play games. There are several restrooms near the lakefront, and parking is plentiful.

A small campground provides 50 sites for tenting, camper trailers and RVs. Every site has a table and campfire ring for cooking and wood fires. There are two group camping areas, one near the lake and another farther back that includes a reservable shelter. Hot showers are available at three bathhouses, and restrooms with flush toilets and drinking water faucets are located throughout the campground. A  small playground will help keep children entertained.

It’s a short drive to the town of Rangeley where a complete range of services are available. The Wilhelm Reich Museum is home to the laboratory and research center of Wilhelm Reich, M.D., a pioneering psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and scientist. The famed Appalachian Trail wends through the area beckoning hikers for a few hours of woods walking. And Bald Mountain, rising up between Mooselookmeguntic and Rangeley Lakes, is a popular family hike with spectacular vistas from its peak.

Rangeley Lake State Park is open from May 15 to October 1.
