Pemaquid Beach

Pemaquid Beach is a quarter-mile jewel of white sand beach on Johns Bay on the west shore of Pemaquid Neck in Bristol. It’s a scenic beauty of a spot for a day of relaxing and sunbathing and the occasional dip in the bracing ocean water. Beach-going amenities include changing rooms, hot showers and a snack bar. The rental shop carries beach chairs, umbrellas, toys and sundries.

The Beachcombers Rest Nature Center located in the beach pavilion is perfect for parents and children alike, with exhibits and displays describing the ecology of the beach and a series of hands-on activities. There is a $4 per person fee to use Pemaquid Beach. Pets are not allowed, even in the beach parking lot. 

At Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park, explore the historic light tower (built in 1835, it still operates today) and take in the Fishermen's Museum, with its displays and artifacts chronicling the local maritime heritage. Enjoy an interpretive tour of an early New England settlement dating to the 1620s at Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site, then take in the commanding view from the rooftop of Fort William Henry. From New Harbor, take a boat cruise to the artist’s colony and the isolated beauty of Monhegan Island, ten miles offshore.
