Reid State Park

Reid State Park at the south end of Georgetown Island in Georgetown is home to two long and wide stretches of sandy beach fronting the Atlantic Ocean. Family and friends will enjoy walking along Mile Beach and Half Mile Beach with their sweeping seascapes of offshore islands and the Seguin Island Light. Relax in the sun on the sandy beach and cool off with a refreshing dip in the brisk waters of the Gulf of Maine. A warmer swimming experience, quieter and just right for children, can be had in the natural lagoon behind Griffith Head.

With an abundance of shore birds, from sandpipers and plovers to eider ducks and mergansers, birdwatching is popular at Reid State Park. Several miles of trails lead over the sand dunes and salt marshes on boardwalks and through the woods beyond the beach. Anglers will enjoy surfcasting for striped bass in season.

Parking is located between Mile and Half Mile beaches, where there is also a snack bar, picnic tables, bathhouses and freshwater showers. There is also parking beyond the lagoon at Griffith Head, which has its own snack bar, picnic tables, bathhouses and freshwater showers. A picnic shelter with tables, bathhouse and parking for large groups (available by reservation) is found at East Beach. 

Enjoy fresh Maine lobsters, steamed clams and corn-on-the-cob on the wharf in the fishing village of Five Islands, just off Route 127 on the Sheepscot River. Take in the Maine Maritime Museum in historic Bath for a taste of Maine’s rich seafaring history, from watercraft and lobstering to shipbuilding and sea trade. Enjoy a walk in the nearby Josephine Newman Sanctuary, where nearly two miles of paths lead around the wooded peninsula bounded by saltwater.
