Public Golf Courses

Nature has sculpted some of the most spectacular terrain in the United States across Maine’s approximately 33,200 square miles. So it makes perfect sense that top golf-course designers would want to share a bit of that beauty. And they have, including three of the country’s top-ranked public golf courses designed by master course architects.

Of Maine’s nearly 150 courses, a few are municipal golf courses offering respectful competition to the other public links. One municipal golf course has been rated many times among the “best public courses” by Golf Digest. It is also the only facility in Maine to host a major USGA Championship.

If you want to spend all day golfing, Maine’s only 36-hole set of links is a public golf course, too. And still another public course was named one of the “top 100 courses you can play in New England” by Golf Styles N.E. for six years in a row.

Treat yourself to some great golf in Maine. Take out your wood to fire a shot down a fairway surrounded by woods and ponds. Choose from settings as varied as boulder-lined fairways and greens where birdhouses serve as 150-yard markers. This gives a whole new meaning to scoring a birdie!

Golf Maine includes more than 40 courses that would love to host your next golf outing.  With their golf concierge service, you can find a course to match your own golfing style.
