Sightseeing & Tours

Maine is spectacular - in the truest sense of the word. There are a lot of dramatic things to see here. Scenic byways, epic coastal vistas, mountain overlooks, island-dotted bays, harbors filled with tall ships, photogenic lighthouses, venerable villages, old forts, covered bridges, whales breaching, jaw-dropping sunsets, National Historic Landmarks – all these and more await the sightseer.

And there are a great many ways to experience these sights. You can go for a drive on one of the state's designated scenic byways. Take a boat ride on any number of vessels and cruise ships. Hop aboard a plane, glider, or a hot-air balloon for a bird's eye view. Climb onto an ATV and hit the trails. Sign up for a moose-watching safari. Buy a map and go for a walking tour of Maine's historic heritage. Visit one of the state's exceptional museums.

Many visitors to Maine prefer to have someone who is familiar with the territory to lead the way. There are many opportunities for guided tours of all types – bus, walking, boat, plane – all across the state. From the amphibious vehicles of Portland, which combine a drive through the city's historic downtown with a boat ride out among the forts and lighthouses of Casco Bay, to the history and sightseeing tours of Lubec and Campobello way Downeast, tours can be found in most every town. Or you can hire a Registered Maine Guide and make your own itinerary. These outdoor experts know where to find wildlife – and the views.

You'll find so many activities and entertainments during a trip to Maine that you'll be planning your next Pine Tree State adventure before you leave.
