Kennebec Valley Trail

Route 201 is a National Scenic Byway, one of less than 100 roads in the country chosen for its spectacular scenery. And it is indeed magnificent, cutting straight up through the Kennebec Valley, curving back and forth with the mighty river, overlooking woods and mountains. Running from Embden to Bingham, this trail follows that same road for eight miles – and it's even closer to the river.  This is the country where Benedict Arnold and his troops met with disaster on their way north to assault Quebec, but it's very comfortable to travel today. The surface of the trail is crushed gravel, and it's ideal for bikes, walkers, skiers, snowmobilers – just about anyone – and the vistas never stop.
