Cutler Coast Public Reserved Land

If what you're looking for is an ideal outdoor adventure spot, then the Cutler Coast Public Reserved Land in Maine’s Downeast region is definitely for you. With hiking, hunting, and fishing in the interior portion and almost five miles of hiking trails along its scenic shoreline, Cutler Coast promises plenty of space to enjoy nature in relative solitude.

Set against a backdrop of steep cliffs, the shore features meandering ocean trails, tiny coves, and pebbled beaches. The cliff-top hiking trails provide spectacular views out to sea – and make a perfect whale-watching vantage point from early summer through fall, when humpback, finback, northern right, and minke whales can be spotted, along with porpoises and seals. Visible from a handful of primitive campsites is the quaint Little River Lighthouse, erected on Little River Island in 1847.

The interior of Cutler Coast Public Reserved Land is a mix of spruce, mossy woods, grasslands, blueberry “barrens,” and peatlands or bogs that can be explored on foot or designated ATV trails. The region’s windy and moist conditions can stunt tree growth, resulting in some interesting specimens. Scattered off some of the hiking trails are more primitive campsites. Open year round, the Cutler Coast Public Reserved Land is a perfect destination for those who enjoy nature in all her wild beauty.
