The cliff-top hiking trails provide spectacular views out to sea – and make a perfect whale-watching vantage point from early summer through fall, when humpback, finback, northern right, and minke whales can be spotted, along with porpoises and seals. Visible from a handful of primitive campsites is the quaint Little River Lighthouse, erected on Little River Island in 1847.

The interior of Cutler Coast Public Reserved Land is a mix of spruce, mossy woods, grasslands, blueberry “barrens,” and peatlands or bogs that can be explored on foot or designated ATV trails. The region’s windy and moist conditions can stunt tree growth, resulting in some interesting specimens. Scattered off some of the hiking trails are more primitive campsites.
