Seboeis Public Reserved Land

For a place named after the Abenaki Indian word for “little brook,” Seboeis Public Reserved Land has as its centerpiece a surprisingly large body of water. Even day-use visitors seeking a Maine boating experience will find the 4,200-acre Seboeis Lake an excellent location for kayaking and canoeing. Or, just float around in the gentle waters against the awesome backdrop… Mount Katahdin rises to the north of this welcoming wilderness area, while the Barren Chairback Range hugs the western skyline.

The shoreline along Seboeis Lake is a picturesque combination of cragged, rocky outcroppings and smooth beaches. Sandy beaches on several islands welcome picnickers and campers, too.

A gravel boat launch is located near the primitive campsites clustered around the northeast corner of Lake Seboeis and The Inlet. The 13,000-acre Seboeis Public Reserved Land also includes a good portion of the shoreline of Endless Lake to the east. So, backcountry campers and anglers have plenty of secluded fishing spots from which to choose. Landlocked salmon, squaretail trout, perch, bass, and pickerel are all found here.

Don’t forget your binoculars when loading up your pack! Graceful loons are a frequent sight on the lake and surroundings lands, as are a variety of other waterfowl. And if you’re fortunate, you might spot an eagle soaring overhead, or a moose making his way through the dense forest of spruce and pine.
