Some of the most sought-after vacation destinations in Maine are on Lamoine State Park’s doorstep. As a calmer alternative to the bustle of Bar Harbor or the collection of campers and hikers who migrate to Acadia National Park every summer, Lamoine offers visitors many of the same amenities on a quieter level. Simple relaxation is the ticket at this oceanfront park nestled just north of Acadia across the waters of Frenchman Bay. Campsites on windswept bluffs with spectacular ocean views take the place of more usual wooded campgrounds.

As for the boating, the graveled all-tide ramp provides an easy place from which to launch boats for a day’s cruise on Frenchman Bay or out to Bar Harbor.

A 55-acre state park, Lamoine is open seasonally and officially closes on 15 October. But for those visitors who would like to experience the peacefulness of winter in Maine, portions of the park are kept open. And though the boat launch ramp is among Lamoine State Park’s highlights, the 123-foot ramp with its 13-percent grade hibernates for the winter.
