Lily Bay State Park

With its multitude of forests, lakes, mountains, and coastal jewels, Maine is a wonderland for those seeking outdoor adventures. And one of the most popular destinations for its diverse attractions and amenities is Lily Bay State Park, 925 acres on the eastern shore of Moosehead Lake, the largest in New England. Though famous worldwide for its local native—the moose—Moosehead Lake also invites visitors to experience Maine fishing at its finest. Its waters run cool and deep, making it a preferred domicile for togue, brook trout, and landlocked salmon. What fan of a reel and pole can resist such enticement?

Lily Bay State Park makes it easy for the fishing aficionado to set up camp. Sites are well spaced, and some are even lakeside, too. Other celebrated activities at the park include hiking, hunting, swimming, and watching wildlife. Visitors are always hopeful they’ll get the chance to see the majestic moose in its natural habitat.

In the fall, Lily Bay is a favorite place for leaf-peeping. And for those who wish to brave the winter weather, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and more Maine fishing—of the ice variety—are available. Plus, while you're visiting Lily Bay State Park, take a side trip to Mt. Kineo to the northwest. Twelve miles from Lily Bay as the crow flies, Kineo's cliffs tower 800 feet above the shining waters of Moosehead Lake. All this and great Maine fishing, too—what a find!
