Popham Beach State Park
Located in Phippsburg, Maine, Popham Beach State Park sits just 14 miles from the coastal town of Bath and continues to be one of the most beloved and visited state parks in Maine.
For those visiting Maine and the Popham Beach State Park area, swimming is a fun and relaxing activity. Bordered by the Kennebec and Morse Rivers as well as Fox and Wood Islands, outdoor enthusiasts have plenty of beachfront to explore around Popham Beach State Park.
For those not interested in swimming, there is still plenty to do including searching for shells and sea glass, sunbathing, beachcombing, and bird watching. Interestingly, while the tide is out, beachgoers can reach Fox and Wood Islands by foot—however it’s important to watch the tide; when it comes in, you’ll be stranded!
Tide pools are another perk for families with children who are drawn to the shallow, miniature bodies of water that sit on the sands at Popham Beach State Park. Kids love finding a variety of sea creatures in these warm pools of water.
Remember to check the State of Maine Beach Advisory Calendar before planning your trip; high tide here can result in little open sand space on the days Popham Beach State Park is at its busiest.
