Earle Shettleworth, director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission and Maine State Historian, will discuss local artist and historic preservationist Mildred G. Burrage. Mildred studied art in France before World War I, met Monet at Giverny and continued to paint with some commercial success throughout her life. A passionate historic preservationist (and daughter of the first Maine State Historian), she helped founded the Lincoln County Cultural and Historical Society in 1954. That organization was responsible for preserving the 1761 Pownalborough Courthouse in Dresden, the 1811 Old Jail and the 1809 Old Academy Building in Wiscasset. She also established the Maine Art Gallery, one of the first to display the work of Maine artists.
