This light is said to be haunted by the ghost of a ne'er-do-well who shot and killed the Sheriff of Biddeford Pool. One keeper, distraught by sightings of the ghost, also killed himself. Friends of Wood Island Light offer tours of this light by appointment. The light can be seen from the mainland at East Point, off Lester B. Orcutt Drive in Biddeford Pool.
Wood Island Light Station was built in 1808.
