Set atop a bold, rocky cliff at the southern tip of Green Island, this white and red-topped light marks the entrance to Hurricane Sound and guides mariners to Carver's Harbor, a busy seaport on Vinalhaven Island. The lighthouse featured a "fogbark" system in which a keeper's dog was trained to respond to ship whistles by barking on foggy days. The lighthouse is not open to the public.
Heron Neck Light Station was built in 1854.
