I kicked off my Route 1 trip in Fort Kent, Maine. From the moment I drove my RV into town, until I drove over the Maine border and into New Hampshire, my drive through Maine was beyond wonderful.

From seeing moose up close for the first time, to the windmills atop Mars Hill, it was a spectacularly beautiful trip.

I kept a blog of my trip at www.americas highwayusroute1.com. After the trip ended I turned the blog into a book, America's Highway: A Journal of Discovery Along US Route 1.

Maine has the second greatest length in miles, at 528, of US Route 1. Florida is first with 531.

I like Maine better.
