Description

Located on Davis Island in the Sheepscot River, Fort Edgecomb traces its origins to the early 19th century. Interpretive panels explain how hostilities in Europe led to construction of forts on the coast of Maine. The centerpiece of the fort is the Blockhouse, completed in 1809. It represents America's best-preserved blockhouse of the period. It sits on the highest point overlooking the Sheepscot River. Visitors are welcome to discover the views from the horizontal musket ports. During the summer months, guided tours and special events are planned. Please contact the Park staff for a current listing of events.
