Description
Fort Kent served as Maine's northern outpost during the so-called "Aroostook War" of the 1830s. The "war," which ended peacefully, was a dispute between the United States and Great Britain regarding the border separating Maine and Canada. Fort Kent includes a wooden blockhouse, built in 1839, that once housed officers. Today, it welcomes visitors who come to explore the uppermost reaches of Maine. Call for hours.
