Description

The Scarborough Historical Society was established in 1961 to protect the rich history, heritage, and traditions of Scarborough. The society's collection is extensive. There is farming equipment: tools; quilts; clothes; class pictures and objects from early school days; and photographs of local people, homes and buildings. Genealogical resources date to the early 1600s. The museum building was built in 1911 as a generator house to serve trolleys of the Portland Railroad Company. The building is included on the National Register of Historic Places.The museum is open Tuesday mornings from 9 am until noon and other times by appointment.
