This cast iron, "spark plug-style" lighthouse sits amid the Lubec Narrows, surrounded entirely by water, no land or rock at all. The treacherous waterway separates Maine from Canada's Campobello Island and was heavily trafficked by boats bound for Lubec's sardine factories.
Lubec Channel Light was built in 1890.
Lubec Channel Light is part of the Lights Across the Border Lighthouse Challenge (see 5 lighthouses in one day!). Check events listings for details.
It is also a U.S. Lighthouse Society Passport participant. Get your lighthouse passport stamped at the West Quoddy Visitors Center, at West Quoddy Gifts or by To and Fro Water Taxi (for a view from the water).
