Founded in 1983, the Bates Dance Festival (BDF), a program of Bates College in Lewiston is acclaimed as one of America's most important contemporary dance centers. Each summer, BDF offers six weeks of performances and events featuring internationally acclaimed contemporary dance and music artists, as well as professional dance training, commissioning and outreach activities.
BDF's 2014 season features performances by Prometheus Dance, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, David Dorfman Dance, South Africa's Vincent Mantsoe & Chinese dance maker Yin Mei, Different Voices a showcase of emerging and international artists, the popular Musician's Concert featuring music from around the world, and the Festival Finale featuring new works by visiting choreographers. Also this season are free events including a photo exhibit, lectures, panel discussions and improvisational performances.
