Drake’s Island Beach is a quiet stretch of coastline in Wells, offering a 2,800-foot swimming beach with natural dunes, a pebbled shorline and beautiful coastal views. Public access is located at the end of Drake’s Island Road, with municipal parking and restrooms nearby. A boardwalk leads to the beach just left of the stone jetty, a favorite spot for walking, photography and watching the tide move in and out.
The beach is especially rewarding at low tide, when broad expanses of sand open up for strolling and exploring. At high tide, the shoreline narrows considerably, so checking tide conditions before visiting helps make the most of the experience.
