Eastport for Pride was founded in April 2001 as a non-profit corporation, registered in the State of Maine, to restore and revitalize downtown Eastport.
Downtown Eastport burned to the ground on October 14, 1886. In photographs taken the next day, despair is evident in people who stood stunned in the ashes of what had been the center of their town and lives.
Those same people, ancestors to many still living in Eastport, rebuilt our downtown in just one year. The year was 1887. Two Boston architects, Gridley Bryant and Henry Black, designed reconstruction in the Italianite style fashionable from the late 1880's to the early 1890's.
Downtown Eastport offers a unique historic experience. Come visit us and discover our way down east.
