Moose Peak Lighthouse was established in 1827 on small, barren Mistake Island. The white, conical tower rises 57 feet. It is not open to the public, but you can cruise nearby.
Stories say that one keeper of this remote light fled to the light tower to escape his wife and daughters, who were renowned for their foul mouths and rude behavior. His refuge didn't last, though. Eventually, the keeper was dismissed because he couldn't control his cursing kin.
