Description

This program, taught by women, is for women who are beginners at fly fishing or need a refresher course on the sport. Here is your chance to fish with other women and not have the pressure of husbands, fathers, or boyfriends. On Friday evening, after a hearty home cooked meal there will be a workshop in the lodge on flies, rods, knots, and other basic skills needed to be a proficient angler. On Saturday morning after breakfast participants will be given a hands-on lesson on handling a fly rod in the courtyard. Once everyone is comfortable the group will change into their waders and walk to the Pleasant River, just east of the camp to try out their new skills. As the group is fishing the instructors will move to each student to teach them to read the water so they can better understand where to find fish in a river fishing situation. Each participant will be given individual attention. The rest of the day will be spent fishing either in the river along side of camp, or out on First or Second Lyford Pond. A fishing guide will be around all day to give instruction, help you understand flies and fly selection, and with casting technique. All participants will need to purchase at least a two day Maine fishing license and bring a fishing rod, reel, line, leader, and an assortment of flies. A list of recommended flies will accompany the reservation confirmation sheet. Fly Rods can be rented at Little Lyford for a fee of $25 for the program. We do not have waders for rent.
