In the Greater Portland and Casco Bay Region the bustling piers of the Old Port in Portland hum with activity. Boats of every size and color dot the waterfront, bells ring out, foghorns thunder, and the salty scent of fresh fish fills the air. Lobster boats offer that day’s catch to local chefs and grocery stores.

The Pubs, shops, and restaurants of Portland buzz with tourists, locals and fishermen alike, creating a convivial atmosphere where everyone is welcomed.

The city of Portland is a unique and inviting blend of quaint cobblestone charm and big city glamour. Add in the vibrant performing arts scene and world-class theater and you’ll see why locals call Portland New England’s best kept secret. There’s so much to do here – from food and wine festivals, to professional baseball games, to trolley tours and art gallery exhibits – that you can easily spend an entire vacation in Portland. But if you choose to explore the greater Casco Bay region that surrounds this magical city, you’ll also be rewarded.

To the north, you’ll find Freeport, home to the iconic influence of Maine’s very own L.L.Bean. En route, you’ll discover the harbor treasures of Yarmouth, and the mysterious Desert of Maine. Or perhaps you’ll answer the call of the sea, by exploring the many islands of this region reached by the daily ferries.

To the south, you can explore your own path along the rocky coastline, from South Portland to the cliffs of Cape Elizabeth, where you’ll find many of this region’s historic forts and iconic lighthouses. Along the way, you might be lucky enough to see the Portland Head Light in Fort Williams Park, which will take your breath away.
