Waterboro & Lake Arrowhead

The Waterboro/Lake Arrowhead region of Maine is a great place to get that down-home, small-town Maine feeling, while surrounding yourself in the wonders of the great outdoors. Little Ossipee Lake is the foremost natural resource in the town. It is known as one of the cleanest lakes in Maine and is a great spot for swimming, boating and fishing. The lake is full of brook trout, lake trout, land locked salmon, perch, and bass.

 Another point of interest is Ossipee Mountain, which is the highest point of land in the area and reaches 1058 feet above sea level. Located on the mountain is a fire tower, which is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register. The Ossipee Mountain trail is a fabulous place for hiking and adventure.

Waterboro also has several parks for enjoying the outdoors. Friendship Park consists of picnic areas, a Little League field, horseshoe pits, and lots of open space for Frisbee, playing catch or other activities. Gobeil Park Picnic Area at Little Ossipee includes facilities for picnics, cookouts, swimming in Ossipee Pond, and a state authorized boat launch. During the winter, ice fishing is a very popular activity there as well. Ossipee Pines is a scenic park in a natural setting. Trails cut across the pond onto islands that make for very quiet walks and rural beauty.

Waterboro Barrens is a serene woodland preserve that was established in the early 1990s when the Nature Conservancy purchased the land. The beautiful forests are home to many plants and wildlife species; as many as 11 species of rare butterflies and moths have been documented on the preserve. Whip-poor-will and common nighthawk nest in open areas within the barrens.
