As you stroll slowly down the sandy beaches or hike through a pristine nature preserve, you will find yourself quickly easing into the relaxing pace of Wells. The town offers an abundance of all-season outdoor activities, shopping, fine dining and leisure pastimes. Wells offers seven miles of oceanfront including four sandy beaches. Wells Beach, Crescent Beach and Drake’s Island Beach are open to the public while Moody Beach is private. Public restrooms are available and lifeguards are on duty, 7 days a week, from June through September.

Wells Harbor is operated by the Town of Wells and contains a private marina and the Wells Harbor Community Park. Boats on trailers can be launched from the Harbor for a fee. No fees apply to the launching of kayaks, canoes or sailboards.

Recreational opportunities include the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge which offers hiking on their one-mile Carson Trail which meanders through pine woods and offers views of expansive, tidal salt marshes. The refuge also offers wildlife observations and photography, hunting and limited boating opportunities.

Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm offers 7 miles of trails, providing spectacular views and access to woodlands, fields, wetland, beach and dunes. The gentle terrain is ideal for casual hikers, cross-country skiers and snowshoers. The varied landscape is prized by artists, photographers and nature lovers of every age.

The centerpiece for the Wells Transportation Center is the Downeaster Passenger Train operated by Amtrak, which runs from Boston’s North Station to Portland, Maine. The Center is served by taxis, limousine, in-season trolley service and an airport shuttle. Parking is free.
