Lincoln
The central Penobscot County town of Lincoln is a destination for fishing, boating and paddling. Fourteen lakes and ponds lie within the town and are known collectively as "the Lincoln lakes." The Penobscot River also runs through Lincoln, and boasts one of the best smallmouth bass fisheries in the Northeast.
The waterways provide habitat for loons, ducks, bald eagles, turtles, otters and beavers. The local population of black bear, whitetail deer and moose draw hunters from near and far.
During winter, snowmobilers enjoy riding hundreds of miles of groomed and marked trails in the region. Ice fishing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing are also popular.
The annual Homecoming Festival in July is the town's largest celebration, with a big parade down Main Street, fireworks, live music, a 5K run/walk, craft fair, and activities and games for children.
