Monmouth & Winthrop

Monmouth and Winthrop are both located in the Winthrop Lakes Region in central Maine and showcase Maine's natural resources. Both towns feature plenty of hiking trails and waterfront access to some of the best bass fishing in the area. The abundance of lakes, ponds, streams, farmlands and undeveloped woodlands also attract a variety of birds and other Maine wildlife.

Monmouth is located along Route 202, halfway between Lewiston/Auburn and Augusta. For over 40 years, The Theater at Monmouth has presented professional productions in the magnificently restored 100-year-old Cumston Hall. Listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, the hall features a 250-seat opera house in a glorious building that towers over Main Street. The Monmouth Museum, also on Main Street has many historical items that depict 19th century rural Maine.

Each summer, the Monmouth Fair entertains and educates locals and tourists about agricultural matters through shows, displays, demonstrations, participation and a great celebration of rural life. The four day event features music, fireworks and plenty of games for kids, including a pig scramble.

Winthrop, originally known as "Pondtown" has dozens of lakes and ponds, making it a popular tourist destination during the warmer months because of its great views and summer concert series at Norcross Point. One of the town's most popular lakes is Maranocook Lake. At eight miles long, the stretch of water provides amazing views and great fishing during the summer and winter. The town also offers visitors the opportunity to take a short hike up the Mt. Pisgah trail and climb the 60’ historic fire tower for breathtaking views of the region.

In addition to the town's natural beauty, residents of Winthrop take pride in their Fourth of July Fireworks, Sidewalk Art Show and shows at the Performing Arts Center
