Brunswick & Topsham

Approximately 25 miles northeast of Portland and just north of the shopping outlets of Freeport, lies the beautiful college town of Brunswick.

A world of culinary choices greets visitors strolling along the bricked sidewalks of Brunswick. Be sure to slip into one of the shops or galleries for a unique token of your visit. Afternoons are well spent in the historic Evening Star Cinema or Maine State Music Theatre. Gather at the town's village green, a park-like setting for music, picnics and farmer's market during the spring and summer or experience a post-card winter as it's transformed into a wonderland complete with lights and skating rink. 

For outdoor enthusiasts, The Androscoggin Bicycle and Pedestrian Path offers riverside views along a paved, well-marked trail. Maine Katahdin sheep provide company for those strolling the path along the fields and meadows of Brunswick-Topsham Land Trusts', Crystal Spring Farm. After finishing the 2.5 mile path, stop by the farmer's market or sign the kids up for Farm Day Camp. 

Four bridges, including the pedestrian Androscoggin Swinging Bridge, cross the Androscoggin River to the historic neighboring town of Topsham.

Each year, "Farm Fresh Family Fun" awaits visitors to the 150+ year-old Topsham Fair. From hand-made crafts, harness races to a thriving midway, Topsham's agricultural fair is a great way to celebrate fall in Maine.

Historic neighborhoods are found throughout Topsham, including the site of an intricate underground tunnel which began on the riverfront and weaved through the cellars of several prominent homes to its ending in the woods – designed to smuggle escaped slaves to freedom.

Visit the nature preserves of Cathance River and Bradley Farm to experience acres of hiking and walking trails featuring dramatic river views, sheltered wetlands and a variety of wildlife.
