Wiscasset

History reigns in the pleasant village of Wiscasset and popular attractions include the Lincoln County Museum and Old Jail built in 1811, and the Lincoln County Courthouse, built in 1824, which is the oldest functioning courthouse in New England. The Musical Wonder House has over 5000 music boxes, as well as hundreds of other mechanical musical instruments such as player pianos and spring-wound phonographs, spanning 200 years of musical history. Castle Tucker, built in 1807, is a truly impressive Federal-style mansion in Wiscasset. Visitors experience the 19^th century through the stories of Captain Richard Tucker, Jr., his wife Mollie and their five children in the setting of their large, fully-furnished home. The Nickels-Sortwell House is another historic home museum and another beautiful example of a Federal-style mansion.

Be sure to visit the Maine Crafter's Marketplace emporium at the Maine Heritage Village, off of Route 1. It is an old fashioned country store with 3000 square feet of Maine-made goodies, from whoopie pies to soaps and candles.

Main Street, Wiscasset is lined with art galleries, antique shops and restaurants. On your way north, just before you cross the bridge you'll pass a local icon, Red's Eats, home of one of Maine's most popular lobster rolls, said to have an entire lobster's worth of meat in each roll.

For a fun and challenging activity, visit Monkey C Monkey Do, Maine's first three-level ropes course and adventure park. Families can navigate ropes courses while secured in harnesses. For animal lovers, be sure to visit Winter's Gone Farm, an alpaca farm with walking trails and a gift store.
