The Big Dipper Trail
Named for its resemblance to the constellation, this scenic trail offers over a dozen shops along its winding rural roads—and don't be surprised if you spot a couple of moose en route! Begin in the quaint, historic town of Bethel, where, after shopping, you can enjoy a spectacular game of golf. From Bethel, follow route 2 to Mexico. The "pot" of the dipper follows Route 17 up the western side of the mountains to Oquossoc, and then Route 16 east to Rangeley—where the area's 40 lakes and ponds create a 450-square-mile fishing, golfing, boating and hiking paradise. From Rangeley, follow Route 4 down the eastern side of the mountains to the shop-lined streets of Farmington.
