Nickels-Sortwell House Open House Days

6/1/13 — 6/2/13

Celebrate the opening of the season with free tours of Nickels-Sortwell House. Captain William Nickels, a wealthy sea captain, built this grand Federal mansion in 1807 as a statement of his prosperity. Like many in Wiscasset, Nickels was devasted by the Jeffersonian Embargo of 1807, lost the house and dies in 1814. In 1899. the house was purchsed as a summer home by the Sortwell family of Cambridge, MA. Lovingly restored in the Colonial Revival style, the home was filled with family and friends until Frances Sortwell's death in 1957. For more information and a full calendar of summer programs, visit www.HistoricNewEngla

11 am to 5 pm. Last tour leaves at 4:00 pm.
