Spend your April school vacation at the Maine State Museum!

What do giants, cannons, books, and secret night rides have in common?

They all play a part in the Museum’s week long celebration of Patriots Day and the founding of our country!

During April school vacation week, the Maine State Museum in Augusta will present a children’s read-a-loud followed by a story-related craft. Centered around the celebration of Patriots Day, these activities are suitable for children ages 5-11 and are free with the price of museum admission. The book reading and activity are offered as first come, first serve. Each session allows up to 30 children.

Storytime and Craft Activity:

Tuesday, April 22 10:30-12:00

“Giants in the Land” by Diana Applebaum , ill. by Michael McCurdy

Learn about the mast trade in Maine and why the British wanted to hang on to their New England colonies!

Wednesday, April 23 10:30-12:00

Henry and the Cannons” by Don Brown

Maine has a whole county named for Henry Knox; come and hear the story behind his most famous Revolutionary War adventure.

Thursday, April 24 10:30-12:00

“Paul Revere’s Ride” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ill. by Ted Rand

We will read an illustrated version of Longfellow’s classic and then create a mural of Paul Revere’s ride!

Friday, April 25 10:30-12:00

“Thomas Jefferson Builds a Library” by Barb Rosenstock ill. by John O’Brien

Come hear about one of the many gifts Thomas Jefferson left to the American people—and try your hand at book-making and writing with a quill pen!

A new story and craft each day, 10:30-12:00.
